Seminar Description
This workshop will introduce different perspectives on defining mindfulness and the research evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness based interventions with a variety of mental health symptoms. Participants will be able to identify the different perspectives on defining mindfulness and the origins of mindfulness based interventions; to list core components of mindfulness based interventions and implement basic exercises; to discuss mindfulness based interventions for anxiety, stress, depression, and trauma; and to employ a mindfulness based strategy for self care, including self compassion strategies.

D. Kent Welsh, Ph.D.
Dr. Kent Welsh is a clinical psychologist who conducted his private psychology practice in Mobile for more than 35 years. He previously taught as Adjunct Instructor of Psychology at the University of South Alabama and is the former director of the University Counseling Center.
M. Cay Welsh, Ph.D.
Dr. Cay Welsh is a clinical psychologist and Emeritus Faculty with the Department of Psychology at the University of South Alabama. She has conducted numerous workshops, symposia, and research presentations over the past 40 years. She has practiced mindfulness for many years and has taught this to graduate students.
