Seminar Description
Participants will be introduced to the major innovations of the DSM-5. More specifically, participants will learn which diagnoses were omitted, added, and changed significantly from the DSM-IV as well as where various diagnoses have been placed within the new organization of diagnostic categories. Changes to criteria for diagnoses frequently encountered in mental health settings will be extensively discussed in this workshop.
OBJECTIVES;
- Identify major changes to the organizational structure of the DSM.
- Discuss which disorders have been added and which have been omitted
- Describe changes in diagnostic criteria and thresholds
- Review several new severity rating scales
- Practice applying new diagnostic criteria and ICD-10 coding system through use of clinical cases
Presenter
Quinn Pearson, Ph.D. is currently the Professor of Counselor Education at the University of North Alabama and has assumed this role since 2006. Dr. Pearson has served as Editor for the Journal of Mental Health Counseling and has authored numerous publications in professional journals.
